Current foundation giving stands at approximately $88.55 billion a year. According to Giving USA’s 2021 Annual Report on Philanthropy, giving by foundations increased 17 percent. Grants by the nation’s 100 largest community foundations totaled a record $12.5 billion in 2020 — an increase of more than $4.5 billion from 2019, according to the Columbus Survey.  Giving USA’s 2021 Annual Report outlines that in 2021, the majority of charitable dollars went to religion (28%), education (15%), human services (14%), grantmaking foundations (12%), and health (9%).
